Dear friends,
What I did and achieved in my last surgical projects of October-November in Wachet Sangha Hospital (Sagaing) and in Pun Hlaing Siloam hospital (Yangon) is nothing new anymore and it is as common as a loaf of bread. But something remarkable happened and it’s worth sharing.
Most of you are aware that in 2003 I initiated a scholarship programme in helping the very poor and deserving Myanmar students to pursue university studies. The administrative service are handled by my close engineer friend U San Nyo Aung and up till now we have supported 40 students.
One of these students is Hein Thwyn Htoo who passed Matriculation in 2007 with 5 distinctions. He came from a very poor family and his father was a manual laborer in an oil mill. 7 years ago he was given a scholarship sponsored by Mrs. June Bellamy aka Yadana Nat May.
Between operations in Wachet hospital U San Nyo Aung, now retired and had joined me in my trip, accompanied a young doctor to see saying that he wanted to kadò me (paying homage by kneeling down). I immediately grasp his folding hands as a gesture that I had received his kadò without him kneeling down.
Dr. Hein Thwyn Htoo and me.
